Fuzzman121 - Neat handle by the way, that's how my head feels most days ,lol. Ya, I would caution him on doing that also, especially if deemed TPI. Maybe he can do some volunteering on the side, if he wants to feel productive. I know it's hard for any of us to admit we are fracked. But once ELB/EELB, like you say I would be afraid the big machine, would pull the money plug on him. Like a lot on here, we have all been burned, and have little faith in the man now..or maybe Johnnys ptsd is on the usual paranoid state,,affraid lol

They deduct all earnings. The Cons had a plan to allow up to $10,000 earnings before deducting anything, but it never came to fruition and the Libs are in power now.

Got a quick question gents. If you were collecting LTD as well as ELB and was wanting to work part time a few hours a week would I have to report the earnings to SISIP and VAC. It would seem self defeating to me. Would both VAC and Sisip deduct any earnings? Just a thought as I know a guy thinking of doing this and cautioned him to check it out. Any thoughts would be appreciated

oh on the rehab part mine was seeing the same doctors I was already seeing . rehab is meant in general not as a specific as in VOC rehab . it includes ALL rehab such as physical rehab .

I myself did not qualify for VOC rehab as I suspect you don't . sooo what you will need to think about as a goal for your rehab such as getting better use of your legs , having less pain in your legs or whatever you know yourself the best and what you want .

ok nemo good stuff .

you can apply for all of these things at one time as I did it should be a lot easier that way .

contact your CM and ask her for the applications for all of these .

if you don't have a CM call DVA and ask for the applications and a CM .

the CM can come to your place sit down with you and go through all of your applications and they can make it really simple . if I recall PIA and sup was one page .

and that's really it beside the doctors part you don't do and the waiting game .

you should really apply for these benefits buds like yesterday .

on top of that apply for the DTC and depending on your age take advantage of the RDSP .

apply apply apply

That's right Trooper. On my recent PIA approval, "approved rehabilitation plan" was listed on key evidence and reasons for approval. It's also true that a member's rehabilitation does not have to be vocational, or result in the member being able to gain suitable gainful employment. Psycho social rehab for coping skills, physio for strength, or medication and strategies to deal with a permanent health condition can all be "approved rehabilitation plans" that are aimed to improve a members quality of life.

nemo,

It's my understanding that in order for you to apply for PIA, you need to apply for rehab first.

Once approved for the rehab program, you then can apply for the PIA.

Rehab does not necessarily mean going back to school, there are other forms of rehab.

I'm no expert on this, so others can weight in on what they experienced.

Also, you can look at firebird's post on page 2, where he states, " You can go on the rehab program and not go to school or back to work , I did , and I was deemed TPI and got PIA as a result of it. You just have to do what VAC says will qualify you for these benefits and have a neutral case manager."

Permanent Impairment Allowance
The Permanent Impairment Allowance (PIA) is a taxable, monthly benefit—payable for life. The allowance is provided when your career options have been limited because of a service-related illness or injury.

Do I qualify?
You may qualify if you have:

a severe and permanent impairment for which you have received a disability benefit, and
a VAC-approved application for rehabilitation services.

So when I go to the form to fill out for PIA...it asks 'Have you had an application for rehabilitation services approved for this disability awarded/pensioned condition?* YES or NO. Of course, I would put NO as I have never put in for rehab. SO...what would they do if I put NO? Reject? Or do I put in for rehab first?

Thanks for info everyone. So I assume then to apply for PIA that you need to go see a
VAC doctor and or other medical specialists?

You would definitely qualify for the walking (ambulate), so even though you can stand up from a chair (transfer), can you do it without assistance, like pushing off with your arms? If you cannot stand from a squat, I think that you could not stand up from a chair easily either. There are oither QoL things that can qualify you for lower PIA. But like I said, these criteria are due to change in April, so you can choose to apply now, with the info that is available, OR you can choose to wait to see if the new criteria is more amiable to your personal situation. But IMO, it's a "Devil you know" situation.
