Minister opens new centre.

August 29, 2016

CFB TRENTON - The country’s largest air force base has “a one stop for care and transition” for Canadian Armed Forces members returning from deployment, or transitioning into civilian life.
Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan cut the ribbon for the Integrated Personnel Support Centre (IPSC) Monday.
The $2.4 million facility is expected to be fully operational in the coming months.
Sajjan made the announcement during a tour of the base that included parachuting from a Chinook helicopter and filming a segment for the CBC comedy show This Hour Has 22 Minutes.
The tour also included a closed town hall meeting with military members.
Sajjan said while the government hopes military personnel will serve as long as they can and as long as they want to and “leave the Canadian Armed Forces healthy, happy and fulfilled by their career” that’s not always the case.
“For some of our members the transition back to civilian life is complicated because of injury or illness. We owe it to our service members to do everything we can to ease this burden. We must ensure we have the resources in place to support them,” said Sajjan.
The 8 Wing/CFB Trenton facility is part of a network of Integrated Personnel Support Centres, under the umbrella of the Joint Personnel Support Unit program established in 2008 to care for ill or injured personnel returning from operations in Afghanistan.
Monday’s announcement comes on the heels of last week’s revelation the federal government will commit upwards of 600 soldiers to UN peacekeeping missions in yet-to-be-named countries in Africa.
“We ask a lot of our men and women in uniform and their families. We ask them to defend our country, to serve long periods away from home, and, if necessary we ask them to put their lives on the line for us,” Sajjan told reporters and dozens of 8 Wing members.
The new centre will bring together Department of National Defence, Veterans Affairs Canada, nurse case managers, family liaison officers under one roof to provide support for serving members, veterans and their families.
The support centre at Trenton was housed in a temporary facility.
Sajjan said the Trenton IPIC is one of several support centres being upgraded or renovated as part of a broader government effort to increase support CAF members.
“This building includes facilities that will allow professionals to serve the needs of those seeking assistance,” said Sajjan.
The centre will serve military members, veterans and their families in the Trenton area and provide services such as returning to duty co-ordination, outreach and advocacy programs.
“And we hope by housing service partners under one roof this new building will serve clients more efficiently and effectively,” said Sajjan.

I would rather see a dozen of these center's then just 2 wellness centers promised by Trudeau.

Looks like the work between VAC and DND is starting to work.

Teentitan - Yes you are right. All the big bases, and at least one in ea province would be awesome. It is nice to see this happen. It would be great if this was a soldiers last sign off on his release card/clearance card (Ok im old school, maybe these don't exist anymore..lol) Then they could be seen by a Vac Rep, and stay in the place until comfortable and has all the info before hitting this silly civi st..VVV...
