Yes, my Dr they say needs to write a letter explaining why my spouse attended. In the mean time with my PTSD VAC approved my wife for treatment as well. Now the rub is getting our travel approved to attend the treatments that VAC approved. Crazy thing would not be so bad f they just did not pay here meals because I still attended and needed to stay home overnight. But no they deny the whole damn claim. VAC and s certainly not making things easier.

Not to argue red but VAC will pay for what you said because it's payment for you to go to an appointment, or to your approved spouse appointment. Its the escort fee that is not paid. Even if your spouse has to take time off work and that is the purpose of the escort fee.

For some reason VAC 'thinks' vets are abusing the escort fee. I've discussed this relentlessly with VAC bureaucrats but they just won't budge. Even if the vet is unable to drive or has lost their driver's licence due to their pensioned condition.

On the VAC claim form for Escorts you can select if your escort is your spouse. They will pay for transport (i.e. ferry fares) and meals for spouses. They will not pay an escort fee for spouses. Still, meals for spouses really helps defray the travel costs if you are traveling out of area. I have escorted my wife to out of town treatments for trips of two days with some trips up to a week. The longest was three weeks when she first started treatments. Fortunately her treatments are getting shorter and less frequent. I find that in the end we normally break even or on occasion come out a few dollars behind but that isn't really relavent for us - the priority is that she gets the treatments she needs and her conditions are stabelized.

Spousesl are not recognized as escorts. Don't know why but that is their rule, VAC rule not Blue Cross because they only follow the rules VAC makes.

RCN if you have all the approval letters then I suggest you contact the OVO for some help.

Put your wife down as your escort and her meals will be paid for. There is a ssperate form that goes with it. Blue Cross is obviously not recognizing her travel needs for treatment (not sure why), but if you require an escort they will cover her meals. I regularly escort my wife for overnight travel. Her medications and medical issues leave her unable to drive and she often requires assistance with mobility. Good luck.

VAC Approved Nuro Feedback

Post by RCN-Retired on Sun 11 Dec 2016, 04:38

What to do, my wife who has major depression because of my PTSD was along with myself approved for Nuro Feedback. It was two sessions per week for 14 weeks. Because of the distance to the clinic we were also approved to stay overnight in a hotel. The issue is with Blue Cross and VAC as once I submitted my claims Blue Cross pays some and others sends a letter that states my wife not approved or both of us not approved even though we have a letter from VAC that says we are plus our CM approved the travel and overnight stays. Even have one letter from Blue Cross that says we are approved for the treatment but not for the travel. It has now been more then four months and still fighting to be reimbursed for the travel that VAC approved. Blue Cross are worse then VAC and it seems that VAC cannot or will not help solve this issue. Not sure where to go but getting pretty pissed cause all the great achievement from the treatments are starting to unravel because here again one battles with VAC.
