I'll try to call them again. It has not been denied, it has just been at Step 1 since Oct 16 when it is supposed to take 4 weeks.... Lawn care and snow removal are really what I am after as I have been paying out of pocket since my injuries.

Thank you for the response.

Well, I know that I was approved VIP for lawn care before I was released, even though I was waiting release at the time. But even if it gets denied because you are still serving, it should at least go through the adjudication process. Then at least you have an answer. The problem is, there is no reference to the VIP, in the NVC Act or the regulations, and it has been removed from the Pension Act. So there is nothing available publicly, to go to VAC, and tell them that they are in the wrong.

Is there a requirement to be released or releasing to receive VIP benefits?

The website makes no mention of that but I submitted an application in Oct 16 through My VAC account that was never processed (Still at Step 1). When I called, the person on the phone said that the program is only for released members but he did not seem convinced....

I have several DAs and according to the website, that should be enough.

Has anyone been in that situation or know the answer?

Bigrex - last year I moved from a lawn that got cut in 15 min, too an almost one acre yard. Called and told DVA. It was like pulling teeth. No one ever came to look at the yard and they put it up 120.00. I felt like I was stirring up a hornets nest calling and telling them. I find somethings are better left alone with them..Cranky Rad Op, Out. VVV...

bigrex wrote "Lord knows that the companies raise their rates every year, for services that VIP is supposed to cover. "

They are a 3rd party bigrex, that said any exploitation / greed they endeavour to pursue should get crucified including any... facilitation.

I mean... made very public knowledge of.

I Have been getting the VIP grant since it's inception. So that has been several years, so I want to know why it is not subject to COLA? Lord knows that the companies raise their rates every year, for services that VIP is supposed to cover.

No, you don't need to resubmit an app for continued VIP benefits. It will continue. Also, don't worry if they never finish the levels of processing either. They will just keep depositing the funds.

Hello, 👋
I was recently approved for VIP benefits. Today, my husband verified the information through VAC My Account, he noticed that there was an end date to this benefit. It stated...Start Date May 12 2017- End Date May 11 2018. My question is... Do I need to re-submit an application annually to receive continued VIP benefits or does it automatically change the date in the system when the end date expires?
P.S Does anyone know how long does it take for the first VIP payment to be deposited in bank accounts.  My husband called VAC yesterday, and they said, "Shortly". I hope VAC's time frame of 'Shortly' does not mean several weeks! 🤔
Cheers,
By the Bay

Veterans Independence Program

Post by Guest on Thu 26 Jan 2017, 17:31

Veterans Independence Program

The Veterans Independence Program (VIP) helps you remain independent and self-sufficient in your home and your community. Depending on your circumstances and health needs you may qualify for financial assistance to obtain services such as grounds maintenance; housekeeping; personal care; access to nutrition; health and support services provided by a health professional.

VIP does not replace other federal, provincial or municipal programs. Instead its role is to complement existing programs to help meet your needs.

Do I Qualify?

You may qualify for VIP, if you meet one of the following criteria:

You have qualified for a disability benefit;
You have qualified for the War Veterans Allowance;
You are in receipt of Prisoner of War Compensation;
You are a Veteran who is eligible for, but is unable to access, a Contract Bed (also known as a Priority Access Bed);
You have been the primary caregiver for an eligible Veteran or civilian;
or
You are a low-income or disabled survivor of an eligible Veteran or civilian
